~ Leave-taking ~

“You will have to travel far,“ Legolas stated, his thoughtful gaze resting on the horizon as if trying to catch a glimpse of the lands that lay hidden beyond the Misty Mountains.

“Farther than ever before,” Aragorn agreed.

Chapter Three: An Elf’s Destiny

------------------

“A good friend remembers what we were
and sees what we can be.”

(Unknown)

“You are not crippled,” Aragorn replied more harshly than he intended to, “nor will I ever see you that way! You are much more than just a warrior.”

“Shall I plant vegetables? Or perhaps take up healing? Or become a bard?” the elf demanded, and then shook his head. “I am sorry, Aragorn, but that is something I cannot do. I am not even sure if a one-armed farmer, healer, or bard would be of much use, and a warrior is what I am, at least for as long as evil still exists in this world. I cannot imagine an existence where I would not be able to defend myself and what I hold dear anymore, would not be able to practice archery, or even to climb trees without assistance! What kind of life would that be?”

His voice failed him... )

Of Stories and Dragons

Dragon 2
I have a a little bit of bad news (at least I hope you'll see it as bad news *g*). I can already tell that I won't be able to post chapter three of "Destiny" tomorrow, since dealing with real life stuff and writing on a new story have kept me too busy to have time to prepare the chapter for posting. It should be up at the weekend at the latest, though. Since I don't want to be responsible for anyone of you falling into boredom because I don't give you anything to read, I thought I'd just make an entry introducing you to my newest dragons and newly stolen eggs instead. Considerate, isn't it? ;-)

So, here are four new eggs you can play with and click on if you want to:

Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today!

No, I haven't stolen chicken eggs by mistake - the two tiny ones are dragon eggs, too, but they belong to a very small breed. ;-)

Here are my newly matured dragons (who say thank you for all your tasty clicks):

This is Culúriën: Adopt one today!
He's a Striped dragon and some of you will probably be familiar with his name. It's another name for Laurelin, the second of the Two Trees. I think that name was only used by the Dunédain of the North. It means something like "The golden-red Crowned/Glowing One", which seemed to be very fitting for this dragon. :)

This one is Urlóme: Adopt one today!
She's turned out to be quite fiery and impressive, hasn't she? She's a Sunset dragon, who likes to hunt at dusk, and her name means "Nightfire".

Here's Lairalasse: Adopt one today!
She's a Summer dragon and her name means "Summer Joy". Originally, I intended to call her "Summer Queen", but it didn't seem to fit quite as well. She's really an exuberant one. *g*

Last but not least, meet Alquamíre: Adopt one today!
She's a Striped dragon, just as Culúriën, and her name means "Swan Jewel". :) They would make a nice pair, if I don't decide they are siblings. ;-)

Chapter Two: Cold Comfort

------------------

“A good friend remembers what we were
and sees what we can be.”

(Unknown)

“You do not need to keep standing there all day.” A quiet voice broke into the man’s thoughts.

Aragorn smiled. He should have known better than to assume that even a weak and distracted Legolas would not notice that he was being watched, or instinctively know who was watching him. Not needing another invitation, the ranger covered the distance between them until he came to stand right beside the bench the elf was sitting on. “I was not aware you had noticed me,” he confessed.

“It was my arm that was injured, not my ears,” Legolas countered mildly, looking up to meet his friend’s gaze. “So, who told you to come – Nestadren, or my father?”

The elf's voice was carefully neutral... )

Dragon Update

  • Jul. 19th, 2009 at 7:32 PM
Dragon 3
All four of my new dragons have grown up today! :D Allow me to introduce you to:

Súryende Tinu Adopt one today!
Súryende is a skywing dragon and her name is Quenya and should mean "Daughter of the Wind". ;-) I guess she would feel at home everywhere, but I think she would look wonderful circling over the white shores of Valinor with a flock of gulls around her. I've added "Tinu" as a kind of surname to all my dragons now (save those that were already named).

Auriël Tinu of Dorkface Adopt one today!
Auriël is a Magi dragon, whose name is Sindarin and means "Daughter of the Sunlight". The "of Dorkface" behind her name means she's from the Dorkface lineage, which seems to be a very famous one (thanks a lot to [info]imbecamiel for pointing that out to me! *g*). Since Auriël is from a fierce and magic-loving dragon race, she'd probably want to stay in Middle-earth and get in fights from time to time (I wonder if she may be related to Smaug?!).

Gildin Tinu Adopt one today!
Gildin's name means "Silver Spark" and since he's a gentle dragon with healing powers I like to picture him being at home somewhere around Imladris (at least while Elrond was still living there - they might have had interesting conversations, and I'm sure Gildin would have liked to meet Gwaihir :).

Duinhir Tinu Adopt one today!
Last but not least, here's my new majestic water dragon, Duinhir. His name means "River Lord" and I very much hope he'll have more luck where his offspring is concerned that the man I've "stolen" his name from - both of his sons were trampled to death by oliphaunts. :( I like to imagine him living in the depths of the Anduin and looking over at Minas Tirith from time to time. :)

Of course I also couldn't resist getting more eggs... *smiles sheepishly* If you are still not tired of hearing about dragons and clicking on eggs, feel free to click on them as much and as often as you want to. *g*

Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today!

A nice little family picture of all my new beauties:

Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today!

*loves them*

LotR Fic: Destiny (1/3)

Mellyn 02
A/N: This is finally the finished version of what was formerly known as WIP number #5. It is mainly due to my beta’s patience with fretting authors that this story is posted now and not in a few years from now. ;-) Those of you who have been reading my LJ for a while will likely realize at some point that this story was inspired by real life events. It wasn’t easy to write, but I just had to do it. Before I give away anything I’ll just shut up now and allow you to read in peace.

Feedback would be appreciated and very welcome. :)

Dedication: In loving memory of someone whose story did not have a happy ending, but who has shown me what true friendship can mean.

Title: Destiny
Author: Silivren Tinu
Beta: the wonderful Imbecamiel (((hugs)))
Genre: Drama, angst, friendship, h/c. Gen.
Rating: T
Summary: When a cruel stroke of fate threatens to destroy all Legolas has worked and hoped for in his life, Aragorn has to find a way to offer comfort and hope in a situation that may turn out to be more difficult than any they have faced before. Characters: Aragorn, Legolas, Nestadren, with a short appearance from Thranduil.
Disclaimer: I own Nestadren, Bregir, the King’s House, and the Queen’s Garden (I have chosen the last two as my new residence – be warned that everyone who decides to trespass risks being attacked by fuzzy black squirrels and rabid plot bunnies :D). All other characters and places in this story belong to J.R.R.Tolkien.

~ Destiny ~

------------------

Chapter One: Bad News

------------------

“A good friend remembers what we were
and sees what we can be.”

(Unknown)

When Aragorn reined in his horse in front of the stables, he immediately spotted the elf who was already waiting for him a short distance away, leaning against the trunk of a majestic beech tree. Seeing the silver-haired healer standing there instead of Legolas made Aragorn feel even more worried than he already was – in all the years since he had befriended the elven prince, it had never been a good sign when he was greeted by Nestadren instead of his friend.

Another Dragon Entry

  • Jul. 12th, 2009 at 8:59 PM
Dragon
My first two dragons have grown up! :D Funny enough, the green dragon turned out to be a female and the pink was male. *g* My Elvish is rusty at best, but I hope the names I've given them mean what they're supposed to mean. ;-)

May I introduce you to Eryniel (= daughter of the forest) and Roménion (= son of the sunrise/morning/dawn):

Adopt one today! Adopt one today!

I'm quite sure Eryniel can be found living in a cave somewhere in Mirkwood and Romenion would probably prefer living at the coast in Valinor somewhere. :)

After this success, I absolutely couldn't resist snatching some more dragon eggs. *hides* If you are not tired of clicking yet, all four eggs would appreciate any love and clicks you have to give them. *g*

Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today!

Fireflies & LotR Fic: A Fighting Chance

  • Jul. 1st, 2009 at 9:29 AM
Side by Side
I got to see fireflies for the first time yesterday! And I did not really have to go anywhere - well, I had to leave the apartment, go to the other side of the valley and take a walk along the river, but nothing more. The fireflies were dancing in an alley of lime trees, one of my favourite places around here. It was wonderful! I did not expect them to be quite so... magical, for lack of a better word. :)

Well, back to business. *g* Here's the edited version of "A Fighting Chance". This story was inspired by a certain scene in the movies. I don’t think you will have any problems finding out which one. ;-) Feedback is, as always, very welcome! :)

This story can also be found on fanfiction.net.

Title: A Fighting Chance
Author: Silivren Tinu
Beta: the wonderful Imbecamiel (((hugs)))
Genre: Friendship, Humour. Gen.
Rating: K+
Summary: Estel learns some lessons in archery, unaware that the skills he is now acquiring will one day help to decide the fate of Middle-earth. Both pre-LotR and LotR, movieverse. Characters: Little Estel/Aragorn, Legolas. Written for Prompt #134 “Chance” in the Owners of Aragorn Angst yahoo group.
Disclaimer: I don’t own them – never have, never will. But I really enjoy playing with them whenever I get the chance. ;-)

~ A Fighting Chance ~

“Hold it steady,“ Legolas ordered calmly. “Now draw the string back to your shoulder and hold it there.”

Estel did his best to comply, trying to keep the bow steady and the arrow trained on the target in spite of the fact that his muscles were beginning to tremble under the strain. He felt the elf’s hands on his shoulders, slightly correcting his posture. Then his friend moved back to his side and nodded. “Let it go!”

With a sigh of relief, Estel released both arrow and string. The bow sang, and the arrow hummed through the air in a graceful arc… missing the target by inches.

LotR Fic: Gifts from the Heart

Elladan or Elrohir
A/N: I felt like posting something lighthearted and humorous and since little Estel definitely fits the bill, here’s the edited version of “Gifts from the Heart”. ;-) Feedback is, as always, very welcome! :)

This story can also be found on fanfiction.net.

Title: Gifts from the Heart
Author: Silivren Tinu
Beta: the wonderful Imbecamiel (((hugs)))
Genre: Family, Humour. Gen.
Rating: K
Summary: An incident during a visit to a nearby village makes Estel remember and treasure some very special gifts he has received on his birthday. Characters: Little Estel, Elrohir. Written for Prompt #135 “Simple” and Prompt #137 “Book” in the Owners of Aragorn Angst yahoo group.
Disclaimer: I guess I own Jannek, but I could be persuaded to swap him for Estel. *g*

~ Gifts from the heart ~

“Look what I can do!” a shrill, excited voice cried, startling both the boy and the elf, who were sitting on a bench in front of a small, rather shabby looking cottage at the edge of the village, soaking up the warm rays of the afternoon sun.

Unfinished Words

  • May. 15th, 2009 at 2:00 PM
Legolas 03
Snagged from [info]jedisapphire ;-)

Post a single sentence from each WIP that you have (or as many as you want to pick). No context, no explanations. No more than one sentence!

This should be lots of fun and will hopefully motivate me to start working on said WIPs again! *rubs hands*

Here are my sentences:

1. Estel shut the book he had been reading in with a bang, startling Legolas and almost causing him to tip the inkpot over and ruin the letter he had been writing on.
2. He patted his axe fondly, and there was a fire in his eyes that promised certain death to each foul creature of Mordor or Isengard that dared to show its face.
3. Legolas was rudely awoken from sweet elven dreams by a hand grabbing his shoulder and beginning to shake it insistantly.
4. He felt like strangling Elrohir for not telling him more.
5. Seeing the silver-haired healer standing there instead of Legolas made Aragorn feel even more worried than he already was – in all the years since he had befriended the elven prince, being greeted by Nestadren instead of his friend had never been a good sign at all.
6. “Things like that don’t happen to dwarves!“ an outraged-sounding voice barked from somewhere inside the darkness.
7. If he had been forced to live in the neighbourhood of Dol Guldur he would have preferred stealth, too.
8. The man’s features were stern and grim, and there was a nearly haunted expression in his eyes as he stared ahead into a world only he could see.
9. Rain began to pour down from the low-hanging clouds, dripping from the leaves and branches of the trees and turning roads and pathways into muddy morass, soaking anyone who was unfortunate enough to be on the way at this late time of the day.
10. “If you want him,” Legolas said in a very quiet voice, “you will have to go through me first.”

A/N: Since things have been a little bit frustrating lately, I’ve decided to post this story to cheer me up. *g* Some of you already know the unedited version of this story from OAA. I hope those of you who haven’t read it yet will have as much fun reading this story as I had writing it. ;-)

This story can also be found on fanfiction.net.

Title: Of Cliffs and Rangers
Author: Silivren Tinu
Beta: the wonderful Imbecamiel (((hugs)))
Genre: Humor, weirdness, angst. Gen.
Rating: K
Summary: A certain elf and a certain ranger are having a streak of bad luck – again. Characters: a certain elf, a certain ranger, and Gimli. Post-RotK. Written for Prompt #140 “Cliff” in the Owners of Aragorn Angst yahoo group.
Disclaimer: I’m not sure if anything in this story has much to do with Tolkien’s world anymore, but I’m still quite sure I don’t own them. ;P

~ Of Cliffs and Rangers ~

“What is it about you and cliffs?“ a disembodied voice wanted to know from somewhere inside the pitch-black darkness.

“I do not have any problem with cliffs and cliffs do not have any problem with me,” a second, just as disembodied and rather tense-sounding voice answered from somewhere nearby.

“Don’t they? I’m not so sure the cliffs would agree.”

Fanfic Questionaire

  • May. 3rd, 2009 at 3:36 PM
Legolas 02
From [info]lindahoyland :)

1.Which is your favourite fic?
I didn't expect I'd find this question difficult to answer, but I do. There was a time when I disliked almost all of my stories, but now that I'm older and wiser *snickers* I tend to find something I like in each story. LOL.
I still very much like the German version of A Night in Lothlórien, but I'm still not sure if the English translation is quite as good. Like a Bird in the Sky is very close to my heart, too.
I also like all 'Dawn of Friendship' fics, especially A Danger in the Night and A Morning in Imladris. Of the long stories, I would have to name Wounds and Hunted. Sorry. *g*

2. Which is your best-received fic?
Call of the Heart. The strong response I got for this fic will never cease to amaze me, especially since it was only the second story I've written (at least in English).

3. Which is your worst-received fic?
At the moment, Of Orcs, Rangers, and Peach Pie and all new stories posted in my Facets of Friendship collection. I had several older stories which weren't well-received when I first posted them, but all of them got a nice number of reviews over the years.

4. Which is your angsty-est fic?
Hm... that would still be Wounds, I think.

5. Which is your funniest fic?
Probably A Danger in the Night. A River, Orcs, and a Spider. Or perhaps "Of Cliffs and Rangers", but that hasn't been officially posted yet.

6. Smuttiest?
Nothing to offer here, sorry. ;-)

7. Fluffiest?
There tends to be a certain (hopefully well-balanced) amount of fluff in all my stories. Perhaps A Headache or Like a Bird in the Sky, I'm not sure.

8. Have you ever made someone cry with your fic?
Judging from what my readers told me, yes, I did. Wounds seems to have made many readers cry. It's just wonderful when one's stories touch readers that deeply.

9. Which fanfic frustrates you the most?
The sequel to Call of the Heart.
The long story I've been working on and been close to giving up on for years now. :P

10. Which fic was the most fun to write?
Call of the Heart. It was fun all around - the writing, the 1st place in the Teitho contest, the response of the readers.
A Danger in the Night, because it made me laugh while I was writing it. :D

11. Which of the OCs you created is your favorite?
Tuilinn and Nestadren. Sorry - I really can't decide if I like the cantankerous stallion more than the cantankerous healer or the other way around. *g*

12. Are you better at oneshot or multipart?
I can't really say what I'm better at. Oneshots are easier for me to write, but I hope they are neither better nor worse than my multipart-stories.

13. Which character portrayal do you think is your best?
Aragorn-Legolas friendship. No, that's not really a character, but it's what I love most and likely do best. ;-) Judging from the reactions of my readers, my Thranduil also seems to be quite acceptable. *g*

14. What character is the most difficult to portray?
Hobbits.
